Black Friday is a hectic time for me as a consumer and I can fall into all of the 'pitfalls that come with it - so I've come up with a few tactics in the last few. years that help me stay on track and not overspend.

Screenshot the products and prices now. Save today’s prices of products you're considering and decide what you’re happy to pay before the offers arrive.

Keep one total across every shop. Track spending across every shop. Mark Christmas gifts as “sorted”, including those still in the post.

Sleep on new temptations. If you see an ad on Facebook or Instagram makes you want something new, save the link and see how you feel tomorrow.

Choose when you look at offers. Put sale emails in a folder, unsubscribe from unwanted alerts and browse when you have time to think.

Check what the “free” extra costs. Spending €12 to save €5 postage costs €7 extra. That's great if you actually want the extra product, just make sure you do.
