How To Use Tan When You Have Senistive, Hormonal, Psoriasis or Ezcema Prone Skin.

If you’re here because fake tan has never agreed with your skin: welcome. You’re not alone, and you’re absolutely in the right place.
When I created Bloom, it wasn’t to compete with the usual tanning brands. It was to fill a gap they’d all been ignoring for years:
Skin that doesn’t behave.
Skin that flares, flakes, stings, and reacts to everything.
The kind of skin that makes you second-guess every product you use.
The kind of skin most tan brands quietly pretend doesn’t exist.
I’ve worked in skincare formulation for over a decade. And over the years, I’ve spoken to hundreds of women who love the idea of a glow, but dread the aftermath. Tightness. Breakouts. Inflamed patches. Or that dusty, patchy fade that leaves your skin looking worse than before.
So we built Bloom differently. And more importantly: we taught women how to use it properly.
Meet Aisling:
Aisling has eczema-prone skin that reacts to practically everything.
She was convinced she’d just have to “sit out” the self-tan trend.
But after testing Bloom Gradual Tanning Crème and making a few small changes to her routine; she found her skin could finally handle it.
No itching. No clinging. No post-tan regret.
Here’s what worked for her—and what works for so many of our Bloom customers:
Here's What The Experts
Are Saying About Bloom:

Step 1: Ditch the Grainy Scrubs
You don’t need to scrub your skin raw to make tan “stick.”
If your skin barrier is already compromised (which it likely is if you have psoriasis, eczema or hormonal reactivity), using a rough exfoliator the night before tanning is like asking for a flare-up.
Instead:
• Use a gentle exfoliating mitt without pressure
• Or better: skip physical exfoliants and moisturise consistently for a few days beforehand. Hydrated skin takes tan better than stripped skin.
Step 2: Choose a Formula That Thinks Like Skincare
Most tans are alcohol-heavy, full of synthetic scent, and designed to dry fast. That’s fine for oily, twenty-something skin. Not for yours.
Bloom uses:
• Glycerin to pull moisture in
• Aloe Vera to calm irritation
• Vitamin E to support healing
• And zero harsh preservatives, artificial fragrance, or drying alcohols
Whether you use the Gradual Crème or the Mousse, it’s skincare first; tan second.

Step 3: Apply Like Moisturiser
Here’s what Aisling does:
• She applies Bloom Gradual Tanning Crème 2–3 times a week after showering
• She treats it like a body moisturiser: light layers, gentle application, no stress
• She avoids sensitive areas (inner arms, neck creases) on flare-up days
• And she follows up with fragrance-free body balm on the off days to keep the glow even
It’s not a rush job before a night out. It’s a rhythm. And that’s what makes it work.

Step 4: Listen to Your Skin, Not the Bottle
If something tells you to apply every night for 3 nights; don’t.
If your skin is feeling dry, patchy, or inflamed: pause.
If you’re flaring up, moisturise first, tan later.
The best results come when you treat tanning like part of your skincare routine. Not a shortcut to glow.
The Results? A Tan That Actually Works With Your Skin
Aisling doesn’t have to choose between comfort and confidence anymore.
And neither should you.
Whether you have psoriasis on your elbows, eczema behind your knees, or skin that just doesn’t trust tan anymore; Bloom was made to support, not stress, your skin.

A note from the founder
Hiya everyone,
I’ve spent over 20 years as a mechanical engineer in research and development: so when it comes to formulating skincare that genuinely works, I know my stuff. I’ve brought that same science-first mindset to Nyrah.
Every ingredient in our range is hand-picked with your skin and the planet in mind. I wanted skincare that’s powerful and safe; luxurious without compromising ethics or efficacy. So we made sure everything is:
• 100% plant-based & vegan; no animal testing
• Paraben-, sulfate- and filler-free
• Gentle enough for every skin type, tone, and gender
We’re proudly made in Mayo, sustainably sourced, and transparently formulated. Because clean skincare should be simple, honest; and exactly as it should be. 💙

Frequently Asked Questions -
Not like traditional tans. Bloom applies like a hydrating body cream and wears like skincare. With consistent use (and a little prep), it blends evenly and fades gently—no crusty elbows, no tiger knees.
Yes. Bloom was formulated with sensitive, reactive, and barrier-compromised skin in mind. It contains no drying alcohols, synthetic fragrances, or harsh preservatives—just barrier-loving ingredients like glycerin, aloe vera, and vitamin E. As always, we recommend patch testing if you’re in the middle of a flare-up.
No. We’ve kept the scent clean and subtle, and completely free from synthetic perfume. You might catch a hint of the natural ingredients during application, but it won’t linger on skin or clothes.
The Gradual Crème is lightweight and buildable; perfect for daily or every-other-day use.
The Mousse gives a richer result in a single application and develops faster. Both are made with skin-calming ingredients and designed not to cling, sting, or dry you out.
Ditch the grainy scrub. We recommend moisturising daily in the lead-up to application and using a gentle mitt (or none at all) to remove any residue. Focus on hydrating the skin; not stripping it.
Absolutely. DHA (Dihydroxyacetone) has decades of safe use in cosmetics. It creates a tan by reacting with surface skin proteins; without entering the bloodstream or triggering melanin production.
It depends on your routine and skin type, but most customers get 5–7 days of even wear from a single application of the mousse. The gradual tan can be maintained indefinitely with top-ups. And unlike most tans, Bloom fades gracefully.
Bloom is free from retinoids, and synthetic fragrance, and we’ve kept the ingredients as clean and calming as possible. That said, always consult your healthcare provider for advice specific to you.
Right here in Ireland, by people who’ve been working with reactive skin for over a decade. We don’t white-label or outsource; we make skincare-led products, in-house, with full control over every ingredient.
Nope. Bloom dries down quickly and doesn’t contain heavy bronzing agents, so you won’t wake up to orange pillowcases or streaky pyjamas. Just give it 5–10 minutes to fully absorb before getting dressed.
